INSPIRE

Implementing Novel Solutions for Promoting Cultural Change in Geoscience Research & Education (INSPIRE)  - was committed to broadening engagement in earth, environment and climate sciences through research experience and professional development activities.  The program provided mentoring, community-building, and professional development to students and geoscientists from a wide range of institutions and career stages. By focusing on opportunity, support, and multi-directional exchange the program had impact on the professional trajectories of countless individuals.

INSPIRE is a five-year program funded in November 2022 through NSF's Cultural Transformation in the Geoscience Community Program. INSPIRE is implementing a multi-faceted solution for transforming culture, shifting power, and authentically engaging underserved communities within earth, environmental and climate sciences. The program offers research experience, training and mentoring for participants in two-early career cohorts: 1) post-baccalaureate Bridge to PhD Scholars and 2) early-career Visiting Fellows. Individuals from both cohorts will engage with researchers at Lamont and within Columbia Climate School. The INSPIRE community-focused summer program, led by partners at New York City College of Technology, offers participants an opportunity to share earth and climate science with local communities and to engage in earth/climate science research co-design.
